A Natural Approach to Storing and Refreshing Your Christmas Stockings

The holiday season brings joy, laughter, and the cherished tradition of hanging Christmas stockings. It’s that time of year again where we bring down our decorations and get everything set up for the most wonderful time of year. In this blog, we'll explore how to naturally store your Christmas stockings and refresh them for the season ahead. Taking a natural approach to storage and refreshing that will not only preserve their magic but also ensure they're ready to dazzle again next Christmas.

Stocking Fillers

How to Store your Christmas Stockings:

Check for any stains:

  • Before storing your stockings, ensure they are clean and completely dry. Spot-clean any stains or spills with a gentle, natural Stain Solution. Let them air-dry thoroughly to prevent mildew or musty odours during storage.

Use natural containers:

  • Opt for natural storage materials such as cotton or linen bags. These breathable fabrics help prevent moisture buildup and allow air circulation, safeguarding your stockings from potential damage.

Avoid Plastic Containers:

  • Plastic containers may trap moisture and lead to a musty smell. Instead, choose cardboard boxes or, better yet, repurpose old shoeboxes. Line them with tissue paper to prevent direct contact with the stockings.

Separate Layers:

  • If you're storing multiple stockings, consider placing a layer of tissue paper between each one. This prevents any colour transfer or potential snagging, keeping your stockings in pristine condition.

Cool, Dark, and Dry:

  • Find a cool, dark, and dry storage space for your Christmas stockings. Avoid areas prone to temperature fluctuations, such as attics or basements, as extreme conditions can damage delicate fabrics.

Refreshing Your Christmas Stockings:

Sunshine Revival:

  • Take advantage of a sunny day to refresh your stockings. Hang them outdoors for a few hours to let the fresh air and sunlight work their magic. Sunlight can naturally lighten any discolouration and eliminate musty odours.

How to repel moths:

  • Use a Natural Moth repellent before packing your stockings away to keep your clothes safe from moths without the use of any toxic chemicals (especially your cashmere or woollen garments). I use my natural formula that is infused with Cedar oil - which is the most potent natural deterrent of Moths and other pests of natural fibre clothing.

Refresh the scent:

  • I love to give my stockings a mist with my natural Garment Refresher to create a natural refreshing aroma. Lightly mist the stockings before hanging them, allowing the fragrance to permeate the fabric.

Fluff and Smooth:

  • Gently fluff the stockings to restore their shape and smooth out any wrinkles. If your stockings have decorative elements like faux fur or trim, carefully comb or brush them to maintain their appearance.

As always, please do let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help.
