A Little Hyacinth & Muscari Magic: How to Bring Spring Indoors

I’ve been feeling impossibly inspired by this glorious sunshine, so I’ve been sneaking bits of it inside. My latest obsession? Hyacinths and muscari in bowls. There’s something utterly satisfying about watching those little bulbs push up shoots and then fill a room with that heady, unmistakable scent. Joy twice over, and it can last for a whole month.
Here’s the simple way to do it yourself:
-
Choose your bulbs – Pick fresh, firm hyacinths or muscari bulbs. Avoid anything that feels soft or shrivelled.
-
Grab a shallow bowl – You don’t need soil. Just a dish that will cradle the bulb snugly.
-
Add water carefully – Fill the bowl so the bottom of the bulb just touches the water. Too much and it’ll rot, too little and it won’t grow.
-
Find the right spot – A bright windowsill is ideal. These little divas love light but not scorching sun.
-
Watch the magic – In a week or so, shoots will appear. Keep the water topped up and resist the urge to poke them. The scent comes as the blooms unfurl, and trust me—it’s addictive.
A few bowls dotted around the house transform a room. I’ve got them by the bed, on the kitchen counter, even in the bathroom. It’s like giving your home a sunny little wink, and really, who doesn’t need that?
And if you simply cannot wait for the blooms to open, be sure to spritz some Spring 91 room mist, instant spring in a bottle.
