There comes a moment often on a quiet Sunday morning when you look at your bed and realise that while the sheets are immaculate and the pillows plumped to within an inch of their lives the mattress itself has been quietly getting on with a much messier existence.

It absorbs sleep sweat skin the occasional spill and the general chaos of being human. And yet we almost never thank it. Or clean it.
