Lovely perfume
"This was a birthday present for a friend who was very pleased with it & especially happy with the new smaller size. As far as ordering & delivery went, it was quick & easy. 5 stars from me!"
You know you’re properly inside a library in Cambridge when the doors close and the world quietens. The noise of the street doesn’t so much stop as lose interest. It falls away. What remains is a calm, concentrated quiet that feels accumulated rather than imposed, as though it has been building patiently for centuries.
There are long wooden tables, of course, the sort your hands recognise instantly. You rest your fingers on the surface and feel how smooth it is, worn that way by other hands, other minds. The scent is immediate and comforting: warm, dry wood, cedar burnished by use rather than polish. It smells like seriousness, but the kind you trust.
You find the book you’ve been looking for. The pages resist just slightly, then give, releasing that familiar smell of paper and time. Somewhere nearby, a pencil is sharpened, a brief, precise flash of fresh wood cutting neatly through the quiet. It’s oddly satisfying, like a thought coming into focus. There’s a faint lift in the room, a moment of brightness, the way light sharpens stone when a cloud moves. Lemon peel and bergamot pass through almost unnoticed, doing their work and disappearing again.
You read. A window is opened. Dust motes drift and sparkle in the sunlight. And then, almost without realising it, you notice something softer. A green, living rose, not floral in any obvious way, more like a presence. It feels as though someone has been here before you and left something behind, an annotation, pencilled lightly in the margin. A secret note. The book hasn’t changed, but your understanding of it has.
Time stretches in that particular way it does when you’re absorbed. The warmth builds gently. Your skin warms under the glass. The scent of books deepens: paper, leather, that faint resinous sweetness that only appears when things have been left alone long enough. Balsams and benzoin gather quietly in the background, smoothing everything out, and then oud arrives, unshowy, steady. It doesn’t darken the room. It holds it. It smells like confidence built slowly, thought layered upon thought.
By the time you look up, you feel held inside a quietly luminous world. Full of asides. Full of small, private understandings. The sort of place where nothing has to prove itself, and everything feels, somehow, meant just for you.
Finding your perfect scent takes time - experience it with our 2ml sample or explore our Discovery Sets to indulge in the luxury of choice.
Handmade in our micro-perfumery in Norfolk. Natural. Vegan. Never tested on Animals.
Why not engrave your perfume? Add a few initials, a date or a lovely message and turn a beautiful bottle into something unmistakably personal. A small detail that lingers just as long as the scent itself. Simply add engraving to your basket here and we will take care of the rest.

"I bought the small size to test. Excellent quality (as usual) but I found it too masculine a fragrance for my liking."
"I bought Annotations purely on the description and so happy I did. It is warm and subtle."
"absolutely love this new fragrance. . . so warm and seductive. will be my go to for this summer!"
"Love the perfume, the packaging, the description of libraries and books (I organise a book festival and have a home full of books so I guess I would!) Also I recently emailed you a query and was pleased to get an immediate acknowledgement and a reply the same afternoon, thank you Your shops are also a delight. I visit mainly Woodbridge but occasionally Cambridge."
"Absolutely love this perfume 😍"
"Gorgeous new smell, warm and inviting. Beautiful mix of smell initially but then it settles and you can smell a little leather and a little bergamot. Perfect for any time of day really. So nice when people give you a hug and say " you smell lovely" x😘"
"I bought this having not smelt it based on reading its description and its meaning. It’s such a beautiful scent that lasts for ages. Definitely my chosen special scent for special occasions. X"
"I tried this as a sample in a mystery box and ordered it immediately it came on sale. Such a wonderful fragrance, changes over time and actually lasts! Love love love it, hoping for other products with this scent, a candle or oil for a diffuser maybe?"
"Just treated myself to this - a total indulgence. Took ages to decide and take the plunge with my order as I wasn’t convinced it could be for me but so pleased I did. It is a stunning scent. Warm, grown up, woody and sensual. Was worried it would be too citrusy like many unisex scents but it isn’t. Usually I’m drawn to amber, vanilla and smoky scents with a bit of a punch. This is a rich, multi-layered scent. Not too heavy but oh so memorable. Feeling very confident today and it only arrived an hour ago! Thank you NNL - please don’t make it a limited edition, I’m smitten"
