It started, as many truly character-forming things do, with mashed sweet potato in an orifice. Specifically: my son’s ear.

He was only one year old at the time, playful, curious, and deliciously chaotic. As I crouched down to extract the orange pulp from his tiny ear, I found myself reaching, without thought, for the usual plastic bottled spray. One of those sharp, chemical heavy monstrosities that announce their presence with a nose wrinkling sting.

As I spritzed it onto a cloth, it hit me. This stinks. What on earth was I doing, wiping my son's skin and surroundings with something that made my own eyes water?

That moment of maternal panic gave way to something more hopeful. What if I could clean our home, really clean it, but do it in a way that felt as nurturing as a hug, as gentle as a breath of fresh air? What if even the most everyday things could be lovely?

And just like that, amid the ear cleaning and the claggy orange mash, the seed of Norfolk Natural Living was planted.

Aromatherapy meets domestic alchemy

I'm a passionate home aromatherapist. I've spent years marvelling at how scent can unspool stress, shift moods, and root us right back into the present moment. So the idea of blending that sensory power with something as everyday as a floor cleaner or linen spray didn't feel frivolous. It felt quietly revolutionary.

Could cleaning your kitchen actually become a kind of meditation? Could the smell of your laundry lift your mood as much as a well brewed cup of tea? I believed it could. I still do.

And so, in 2019, Norfolk Natural Living came to life. Not as a grand commercial venture, but as a joyfully determined idea: to create products that do the job beautifully while also uplifting us, nurturing our spaces, and quietly, generously supporting our wellbeing.

The generosity principle, bottled

We often think of generosity as something grand, a cinematic gesture that changes everything in an instant. But the most meaningful kind is usually much quieter. A small kindness. A thoughtful choice. A product that's gentle on your skin, safe for your dog, kind to your baby's delicate skin. A fragrance that somehow makes folding laundry feel, dare I say it, like a pleasure.

That philosophy runs through everything we create. We don't mass produce, and we never rush. Every blend is handcrafted in small batches in our Norfolk workshop, using therapeutic grade essential oils and carefully chosen plant based ingredients. Everything is biodegradable, non toxic, and entirely free from harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.

Why? Because kindness matters. In what we make. In how we care for the planet. And in every experience we share with you.

The scent of home

Our studio sits among Norfolk’s lavender fields and salty sea air, and if you’ve ever been to Holt, Wells-next-the-Sea, or Aldeburgh, you’ll know what I mean when I say the land here breathes a different rhythm. It’s gentle. It’s grounding. And it’s entirely woven into our DNA.

Our perfumeries, each one a little pocket of English countryside charm, carry that spirit with them wherever they are. You'll find us in Holt, Wells-next-the-Sea, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Norwich, Cambridge, and on Columbia Road and Lamb's Conduit Street in London, delivering everything ourselves with the same care we'd give to a basket of homegrown tomatoes.

But truthfully, our products are designed for where you are—on your bedside table, your kitchen counter, the boot room after a muddy walk. They’re made to be used, not admired from a distance. To be lived with.
