Summer solstice - midsummer- marks the longest day of the year. We are gifted with the longest day and the shortest night of the year. As well as a date in the calendar, its a turning point in the year- it celebrates life in full bloom. Its one of my favourite times of year.
In Norfolk, the landscape looks wonderful during solstice celebrations- it looks so idyllic and alive. At this type of year the sun is shining at its peak. The trees are heavy with fruit, the leaves are shining, we are promised lighter and longer evenings, there are beautiful sunrises and flourishing gardens. For those of you who find joy in natures rhythm, solstice is a moment to pause and let the fullness of the season settle in. I love to absorb every moment.
Begin with sunrise
Its a fine thing to rise early and catch the sunrise. There's a gentle magic is those first golden moments of the day. There's the soft sound of chirping birds and the sound of a light breeze. At dawn, when the sky turns a soft pink and warm gold, the world feels truly alive. I like nothing better than to take my cuppa out into the garden to drink it. I love soaking up the simple beauty of nature.
Connect With Nature
One of my favourite rituals is taking a walk with my children through the countryside and along the Norfolk coast. Seeing the change in flowers, the sway of the grass and hearing the hum of the insects. I love a family walk and seeing the happiness this season brings to my children by being outside.
If your like me and love gardening, solstice feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the suns peak by planting some sun-loving flowers or tending to the plants already growing in your garden. I definitely have a few that need some attention right now. I usually stick to my natural methods- crushed eggshells, oyster shells and a touch of essential oils. It feels so right to work with nature, especially at a time of year that honours the sun and growth.
Solstice in your home
Many people find meaning in lighting a candle, a simple act that celebrates light and invites warmth into our hearts and homes. I always have a candle placed in my window where the sun shines in. I choose to pair this with a diffuser for a slow constant release of fragrance, to keep my home feeling fresh and inviting, all summer long. I always opt for the midsummer scent this time of year for a sweet and fresh fragrance.
In summer, the abundance of daylight is both a gift and a gentle thief of sleep. The longer days brings a set of challenges for restful sleep. When I'm struggling to sleep, I always reach for my Pillow Mist. A light spray of this helps me relax, unwind and ease my mind. I also reach for my Magnesium Body Mist which helps me relax and it offers a calming touch for a peaceful nights sleep.
I hope your Summer solstice is filled with light, laughter and the joy of being fully present in the heart of this wonderful summer.
