How too keep cool in hot weather

I love summer as much as anyone. Give me sunshine, long evenings, a bit of heat on my shoulders and I’m very content. But there’s a point, especially in the kind of temperatures we’re not exactly built for in the UK, where even the most enthusiastic sun-lover starts to wilt like a forgotten lettuce.

This is where a few simple essential oil blends can be surprisingly helpful. Not magic, not miracle, but a small, lovely reset for your senses when everything feels a bit too much.

Aromatherapy works best when oils are blended, each one nudging the other into something more balanced and effective. So rather than overthinking it, think of it as mixing a small bottle of “feel better”.

Here are a few easy favourites.

Enliven and Refresh room mist
Add 4 drops lavender, 4 peppermint, 4 lemon to 300ml of spring water in a clean spray bottle. Shake well and mist lightly around a room. It feels instantly brighter and a bit clearer, like opening a window in your head as well as your house.

Relax and Release pillow mist
This pillow mist is full of Marjoram, nutmeg and lavender which make a quietly soothing blend. Spritz lightly on your pillow before bed or use as a gentle room mist when the heat leaves you a bit frazzled. It’s soft, calming, and very good at taking the edge off a long hot day.

Cool and Soothe pulse oil
A ready-blended roll-on is perfect for this weather. Citrus oils like orange and grapefruit keep things light, while calming notes help ease that slightly overcooked feeling. Pop it on wrists or neck when you need a moment of calm, preferably with a fan pointed directly at you like a minor celebrity.

A small tip I swear by: keep any of these blends in the fridge. The effect is instantly more “ahh” and less “I may melt”.

Simple things, really. Just a few ways to make hot days feel a little more gracious and a bit less gladiatorial.
